Ane Brun: "A Temporary Dive"
(DetErMine Records/V2)
Recorded during fall 2004 at Bonsai Studios, Stockholm.
Produced by Katharina Nuttall and Ane Brun.
Hi there! Here are a few brief words with some of my personal ideas and
thoughts about the songs on this album.
To Let Myself Go (Ane Brun)
The opening track on the album is a brief and personal philosophy of life.
Rubber & Soul (Ane Brun)
There exists a kind of rational nerve in our bodies that prevents us from doing things we instinctively would like to do.
This song is about situations like these. ”I wear rubber-bands ´round my soul, they keep me from crawling”
Balloon Ranger (Ane Brun)
Luckily we have people around us to pull us down from our sometimes fluffy and abstract state of mind. ”you´re holding on to this thread, connecting you to me, I´m filled with laughing gas and polluted air”
My Lover Will Go (Ane Brun)
This is a self reflecting tale of love.
Temporary Dive (Ane Brun)
Sometimes we fall into dark holes in our lives. Luckily they are mostly temporary. My guitar and my song are beautifully surrounded by steel pans, glockenspiel and more.
Laid in Earth (Henry Purcell)
A couple of years ago I heard for the first time the beautiful classical aria written by Henry Purcell. Its called “when I’m laid in earth” and is taken from the 17th century opera “Dido and Aeneas”. The original lyrics are in English and the melody is so beautiful – it inspired me to make my very own version of it.
On this recording you can hear my vocals-and guitar arrangements and also Malene Bay-Foged’s heartbreaking string arrangements.
This Voice (Ane Brun)
This is one of my oldest songs. It has now been given new life through Katharina Nuttal’s “circus”-arrangements.
Where Friend Rhymes With End (Ane Brun)
This is an honest and direct story about being left by someone.
Song No.6 (feat.Ron Sexsmith) (Ane Brun)
I wrote ”Song no 6” originally for a wedding. Two of my good friends were getting married, and for once I wrote this happy love song. I wanted to have a duet on the album and asked one of the best mail vocalists, Ron Sexsmith. He wanted to do it and this song was recorded after a legendary after show party at the festival Storsjöyran, in the Swedish city of Östersund. The result became wonderfully soulful!
The Fight Song (Ane Brun)
The year after my debut release was filled with personal challenges. This song is my own personal “fight song” to handle it all.
